Screening during COVID-19

We are working with UK GOV to ensure that the screening process is being reviewed, as there are obvious challenges due to COVID-19 (coronavirus). Some of this is around meeting face to face with a potential candidate to complete an identity check. Therefore, we have influenced various regulators to change their approach in these unprecedented times.

We will update this page on an ongoing basis, to ensure all new changes are visible to our current and prospective clients.

Our new fast track Employee Screening Service is the fastest screening available at no additional cost, it ensures people are ready to start work in hours, not days, and is available 24/7.

We have worked with MPs, The Home Office, DBS, and Disclosure Scotland to find practical solutions to achieving responsive and rapid compliance and onboarding during these challenging times. Below is an overall update of the steps have taken to achieve this

21st April - Keep Britain Working

Keep Britain Working - We want to bring people together during this National Emergency through a campaign to #KeepBritainWorking. The objective of the campaign is simple, to preserve jobs and to protect livelihoods.

These are challenging times. The COVID-19 pandemic has wrecked lives and decimated many businesses across the UK. Many companies and workers are facing anxious days and weeks ahead. Whether you're looking for work or seeking ways to sustain your business, help is at hand.

Keep Britain Working will help redeploy workers from struggling sectors to in-demand ones, help people who have lost their jobs find new ones, share and implement the best ideas to help the country keep working, and get people back into work. We want to share ideas, encourage good practice and help individuals and the economy to recover.

Whether it's a new cohort of hires to cope with increased demand, or just tenured staff with less oversight in these unprecedented circumstances, a businesses greatest overlooked threat is internal fraud. Not only does this crisis present opportunity to such individuals through relaxed hiring controls or operations being prioritised over governance, but it also provides motive, as many people are financially affected by these times of difficult trading.

Mike Haley, CEO of Cifas, the UK’s Fraud Prevention Service, says ‘In these unprecedented times, there may be pressure on employers to recruit staff quickly either as a result of an increased demand in their sector, or due to the sickness or self-isolation of existing employees. It would be easy to rush candidates into jobs without the usual checks, but this could result in employees with false qualifications, criminal records or a hidden employment history gaining employment within a business. Whilst everything else may be different at the minute, your pre-employment screening checks should not be – your business depends on it.'

The campaign launched on keepbritainworking.comand encourages businesses and working people to make pledges to #KeepBritainWorking both during the crisis and beyond. The website also serves as a hub for sharing ideas and advice; including resources to support companies and their employees during this most difficult of times. Here you can find guidance and support on working, on boarding and sharing tips on remote working.

We pledge to #KeepBritainWorking by offering free and subsidised 24/7 employee screening services to ensure people can hire who they need, when they need.

Keep Britain Working has received support from Lord Alan Sugar, James Timpson, and Severn Trent chief executive, Liv Garfield. MPs Penny Mordaunt, Steve Brine and Caroline Nokes have also given the movement their backing, alongside business group the CBI. Trade organisations Recruitment & Employment Confederation and the Family Business Place are also on board.

15th April - In-Post checks

In this time of upheaval, many overlook the threat within their organisation - with Reed Screening's in-post checks service, you can rest easy and focus on keeping your business running smoothly

The process couldn't be simpler - just provide the details of all your in scope employees through our online portal, select the in-post checks you want and how frequently you want them running, and our automated 24/7 service does the rest.

In-post checks available in any combination include:

- Credit Checks & Financial Probity Assessments
- Criminal Record Checks & Fast-Track Barred List Searches
- Adverse Media
- Sanctions
- PEPs
- Directorship Checks
- Fraud Checks
- Activist Checks

We do this without relying on responses from previous employers who may not be trading or are operating at severely reduced capacity during the present circumstances.

This service ensures the shortest turnaround time for screening whilst maintaining the stringent standards that all organisations should hold when screening their employees and is fundamental to protecting your business.

Do you need your candidates immediately, then get in touch using the form below, to hear more.

2nd April - We wanted to help those people whose credit ratings might have suffered during COVID-19 by making sure their chances of a new job aren't impacted

We're supporting employers and prospective employees alike during this crisis with our compassionate credit service.
Whilst the Credit Reference Agencies have pledged not to allow payment holidays, reduced payments, paused payments or increased credit limits to affect consumer scores, they will still be incorporating defaults, missed payments and numerous other adverse credit data points that could reasonably arise from someone's livelihood being affected by the crisis.

Working with government and our financial services partners, we are automatically excluding any adverse credit information related to COVID-19 from our employment checks, ensuring that those impacted by, or out of work because of the present circumstances can rejoin or move within the workforce quickly, and reducing time to screen by eliminating screening failures or escalations to hirers.

If you can benefit from this, contact us today at: screening.enquiries@reedglobal.com or use the form below.

1st April - Fast-track Screening - Accelerating onboarding without compromising compliance

During the present crisis, many organisations are facing unprecedented demand, and need to recruit at pace and in high volumes. Where internal screening functions and outsourced providers can't cope with this volume, businesses are being forced to compromise their compliance and security to meet operational needs by foregoing critical checks on their hires. With Reed Screening's fast-track screening service, you can have the best of both worlds - through segmented workflows and automation, we can conduct same day key checks to get those essential hires into the business, and continue with the screening in parallel to assure you that risk is being mitigated even in these challenging times.

Reed Screening stratifies the essential elements of screening and through innovative technology, automation and smart workflows, ensures that a potential employee can enter your business within the first 12 hours of the process, whilst giving you 100% confidence in their identity, right to work, and lack of inappropriate activity within previous roles. Simultaneously, our parallel workflow engine will be initiating the deeper level checks, assessing their financial probity, criminal record, previous employment conduct and general suitability and cultural fit with your organisation. This combined approach offers the speed that you require in such a period of elevated demand, without sacrificing the exacting standards of screening that all organisations should have or aspire to.
